Disclaimer
Please read this before relying on anything on this website.
For your personal situation
For any personal or detailed question about worship, family matters, business, inheritance, zakat calculations and similar issues, please ask a qualified local scholar or mufti whom you trust.
Differences of opinion
Scholars of Islam sometimes differ on details, such as between the madhabs. Where we mention a view, it is to help you understand, not to say that other views are wrong. Follow the school or scholar you normally follow.
Accuracy and translations
- We try hard to be accurate, but mistakes can happen, especially in translations into Hindi and Urdu.
- Translations of the Qur'an and Hadith give only the meaning. The Arabic text is the original.
- Prayer times, Qibla direction, Hijri dates and Zakat figures are calculated and may differ slightly from your local mosque. When in doubt, follow your local masjid or authority.
Review status of the content
We want you to know exactly how far this content has been checked.
- Not yet reviewed by a qualified scholar. The fiqh explanations, hadith selections and gradings and the Hindi and Urdu texts are waiting for review by qualified scholars. Until that is done, please treat them as study notes, not as rulings.
- Schools of thought. Many prayer details on this site are first given as they are commonly taught in the Hanafi tradition. Wherever we know that the other schools differ, the page says so. If your school or mosque does something different, follow it.
- Hadith gradings. A grade shown on a hadith card is a commonly cited grade, not our own judgement, and a scholar has not yet checked it. Hadith in Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim carry no extra note; for the other collections a note says that scholars may grade differently. Where we found a real disagreement (Ibn Majah 224, Tirmidhi 1209 and Tirmidhi 2517), the card explains it.
- Translations. Hindi and Urdu are our main translations. Arabic, Indonesian, Bengali, Turkish, Malay and French are beta drafts that have not been reviewed by native speakers, so some wording may be wrong.
- Qur'an text. The Arabic text of the Qur'an is checked automatically against the source file every time the site is built, so that it cannot be changed by accident.
- Audio. A button that says “Listen (Qari)” plays a recitation by a qari. A button that says “Listen (device voice)” uses your phone's or browser's computer voice, which is not a qari and may mispronounce Arabic.
